Dance in the Studio | Winter Ballerina, High School Senior Session It’s not often that I get to photograph my high school seniors in the snow, so I always love the opportunity to try something new and see what happens. This month I had the pleasure of photographing Rebecca, a high school senior who attends an out-of-town performing arts school, where she focuses on her dance studies. It was such a treat to have her come and play (with ballet!) and to share her talents and her love for what she does. It’s so inspiring to see so much focus, talent and passion in these kids. See for yourself, in her highlight reel below....
What’s Your Vote? | Black & White vs. Color Check out the shot from a recent Tween session with the lovely Sophie. I kinda love this, but can’t decide which I like better – black & white… or color. Tween Sessions & The “Who I Am” Project In my studio, I see many sweet little ones, many high school seniors, many entrepreneurs – all coming in for portraits to tell the story of these important times of life. Celebrate achievements, get those “have to” images, and capture times we typically think of capturing. What I’m finding, in my years as a pro photographer, is there’s this big age range that gets overlooked – that Tween age that starts around 9 until hitting the official 1-3…and teenagerhood. This time of life is also a huge transition, as I’m sure we can all remember. It can be confusing, and self-confidence and self-image can get shaky. For me, personally, this was a time of braces, permed hair, shoulder pads (ugh) and huge pink glasses that allowed me to see the chalkboard. I felt like the opposite of beautiful. I was lacking in confidence and in self-belief. Looking back at those images of me now, I see so much there – so much beauty, so much ability. I wish I could go back and give Tween Me a hug and show her how great she really was and let her know that everything was going to be a-okay and to not worry so much. With this project and with these sessions, I’m making it my personal mission to capture those lost preteen years. The goal is to help tweens look and feel beautiful and have unshakable confidence in themselves when they hit junior high or middle school. In comes the “Who I am” project and Tween sessions….Click here to read more on...
This weekend we’ll be kicking off the Evergreen Women project, documenting as many area women as possible. Please join us! I want to capture your image, hear your story and share it with others in our community. Why? There are a few reasons: 1. Howdy Neighbor – (The Who) We live in an area where there aren’t the traditional midwestern neighborhoods like I grew up in. I used to know all my neighbors, their kids, their pets… Once, soon after I moved to the area, I was working as a waitress (in the restaurant formerly known as Dick’s Hickory Dock) and was chatting with some of my customers. After a while we realized that we were neighbors – next door neighbors and we didn’t even recognize each other! We had an acre of land between us and we never saw each other, except from a great distance. So, one reason for this project, is so that we can get to know our neighbors. 2. You’re here on purpose – (The Where) Evergreen is pretty amazing. This climate is about as perfect as it gets. The scenery is some of Mother Nature’s best work. The open space parks are world class. We have THE best dog park on the planet. We’re full of wilderness, but we are within an hour of downtown Denver, we have our privacy, but we also have many strong community ties. We are a perfect mix of nature, culture, restaurants, activities and people tend to live here on purpose, even if they’ve found themselves “just” born and/or raised here. We choose...
Storytelling Headshots for Entrepreneurs I often get asked about these “Storytelling Headshots for Entrepreneurs”… Questions like: Why are they “storytelling”? What if I don’t consider myself an entrepreneur? I’m pretty sure all I need is just a basic headshot for social media, why would I do this? So I’ll just go ahead and tell you why you absolutely need one of these sessions! Well, maybe you don’t, but if you’re here, reading this, you probably do. You are here for a reason and maybe your subconscious mind knows something you don’t know. Maybe it does, maybe it doesn’t – coy, it is. Back on task. Here’s what these sessions are all about. They’re about ease and flow. They’re about integrity and alignment. They’re about intuition and inspiration. You don’t have to be a master of any of these concepts, but, in our conversations, we’ll connect to that place where you feel these things. These amazing, perfect things and how they translate to the work you’re doing, the art you’re putting out to the world and the people you best connect with in the wonderful Land o’ The Ideal Client. When we connect to that part of you that is inspired and loves what she does, we can talk about how that radiates into every part of your businesses. Here’s what we clarify: What is your message? Who do you serve? Why do you do this work? Then we translate that into visuals. What is your brand? Your style? Your personality? How does your message and your other vital elements weave into these visuals? Then we play. Maybe we consult...
Declaration of Interdependence | Entrepreneurs Unite (in Europe) (or Colorado) Today I made a commitment to be consistent about communicating with my community and inviting my community to be more connected with the work I’m doing. You, being My Community, are the ones I want to connect with. I’m so glad you’re here. I appreciate your support and I hope to connect in-person as well as in this virtual world. For you that are entrepreneurs – past, present or future entrepreneurs, you may appreciate the blog I wrote for Cowork Evergreen. This speaks of the consistent communication commitment I made – I want my process to be transparent, as it may help others as well. It talks about simplifying all the processes of your business and boiling it down to two simple actions. You can read more here. Why would I write this? Am I a business coach? Am I changing careers? While I’m not a biz coach and I am not changing careers, my eyes are opening to the bigger possibilities of how I can connect with and help others around me in the best way I know how. As a small business owner and entrepreneur, I’ve studied with some of the best teachers around and have learned many lessons about what works and what doesn’t work. I’ve learned much from my own experience and from the lessons my clients and peers have taught me. There are also the personal aspects that are entwined yet are so often overlooked as people assume business life is separate from personal life. If you’re an entrepreneur, you KNOW they’re one in...

Introducing Muse Mini Sessions Your feedback to the Muse Sessions (www.muse-sessions.com) has been amazing and heart-warming. It means so much to me that this concept connects to so many of you – the idea of taking our time together to a higher level and capturing images that tell a story and let YOU tell your story. I love it. Our recent gallery show had a great turn out – I loved seeing each and every one of you there and appreciate that you came out for our Muses. ♥ I believe this is so important and such a soul-strengthening experience, I want to make Muse Sessions accessible to more people – everyone who loves this should be able to experience it. I’ve created a couple of options to make it easier to say ‘Heck ya, Katy-lady – sign me up!’ 1. Payment Plans. Break up payments to work with your budget. Whether that means 2 – or more – payments, we will accommodate. 2. Mini Muse Sessions! These are slightly shorter Muse sessions and – while you’ll still get amazing attention and images – the goodies are trimmed down and your gallery show will be with more ladies. But perhaps these are perks for you? ————- Mini Muse Sessions $695 45 minute session Outfit changes Pre-session planning pow-wow at the studio 2 – 11 x 14 canvas wall prints 25 – Muse cards (5×7 2-sided luxe prints) Your images included in the Muse gallery show in Fall Add salon hair and makeup for $50 ————- These Mini Muse Sessions will run on a trial-basis through Summer and their availability will be limited to no...
Announcing the 2014 Summer Series Photography Sessions for Kids! This year we’ll have a variety of fun themes to engage the little ones and bring their best expressions so you’ll have your fantastic Summer memories to enjoy all year long. We’ll be (mostly) photographing at our NEW studio space. We’re still in the same building on Bryant Drive, just with a little more room for kids to run around. Here is the run-down (more F.A.Q. below): Frequently Asked Questions about our uber-Special Summer Series Photography Sessions for Kids: 1. I have 3 (or more) children. Can I bring them all? Yes, of course, but I do ask you to book an additional time slot to ensure we have appropriate time to give them all equal smile time in front of the lens. This goes for buddies, cousins, parents, etc. If two sessions still isn’t enough time for you, consider booking a regular family session where you can have your whole family photographed for a whole hour! 2. I have a child who is going to be a high school senior this fall. Can they use this for their senior session. First of all, congrats on surviving the roughest years of teenagerhood! Second, these sessions are designed for younger children and to capture their spirit in an age-appropriate way. Photographing high school seniors is a very different thing. If you’re interested in booking a senior session with me, please let’s do chat. If a mini-session type of arrangement would work best for your needs, please let me know. I may offer this for a limited number of senior sessions, but...
