Tween Sessions & The “Who I Am” Project In my studio, I see many sweet little ones, many high school seniors, many entrepreneurs – all coming in for portraits to tell the story of these important times of life. Celebrate achievements, get those “have to” images, and capture times we typically think of capturing. What I’m finding, in my years as a pro photographer, is there’s this big age range that gets overlooked – that Tween age that starts around 9 until hitting the official 1-3…and teenagerhood. This time of life is also a huge transition, as I’m sure we can all remember. It can be confusing, and self-confidence and self-image can get shaky. For me, personally, this was a time of braces, permed hair, shoulder pads (ugh) and huge pink glasses that allowed me to see the chalkboard. I felt like the opposite of beautiful. I was lacking in confidence and in self-belief. Looking back at those images of me now, I see so much there – so much beauty, so much ability. I wish I could go back and give Tween Me a hug and show her how great she really was and let her know that everything was going to be a-okay and to not worry so much. With this project and with these sessions, I’m making it my personal mission to capture those lost preteen years. The goal is to help tweens look and feel beautiful and have unshakable confidence in themselves when they hit junior high or middle school. In comes the “Who I am” project and Tween sessions….Click here to read more on...
Storytelling Headshots for Entrepreneurs I often get asked about these “Storytelling Headshots for Entrepreneurs”… Questions like: Why are they “storytelling”? What if I don’t consider myself an entrepreneur? I’m pretty sure all I need is just a basic headshot for social media, why would I do this? So I’ll just go ahead and tell you why you absolutely need one of these sessions! Well, maybe you don’t, but if you’re here, reading this, you probably do. You are here for a reason and maybe your subconscious mind knows something you don’t know. Maybe it does, maybe it doesn’t – coy, it is. Back on task. Here’s what these sessions are all about. They’re about ease and flow. They’re about integrity and alignment. They’re about intuition and inspiration. You don’t have to be a master of any of these concepts, but, in our conversations, we’ll connect to that place where you feel these things. These amazing, perfect things and how they translate to the work you’re doing, the art you’re putting out to the world and the people you best connect with in the wonderful Land o’ The Ideal Client. When we connect to that part of you that is inspired and loves what she does, we can talk about how that radiates into every part of your businesses. Here’s what we clarify: What is your message? Who do you serve? Why do you do this work? Then we translate that into visuals. What is your brand? Your style? Your personality? How does your message and your other vital elements weave into these visuals? Then we play. Maybe we consult...

We almost thought we were going to get a spring snow shoot. But the flurries were so elusive and flurried that we never seemed to get them in our shots. Even so, I’m loving what came out of this session. Miss Em is wearing new arrivals from Dare Boutique in Evergreen (also in Denver) and Marian was our hair stylist, Sasha was our makeup artist. Both Marian and Sasha can be found at Alpine Ridge Salon & Spa. I love Emily’s range of expressions and looks in these series of images. She looks like different famous actresses – it changes from image to image. What do you think? As always, I love to hear your thoughts – comment below! xo,...
It’s time for a change. Time for something new. Shake it up, wake it up. See what light shines through. It is with an inspired heart that I introduce Muse Sessions. Life is too short and if we don’t honor our gifts as best as we can, we do the world and ourselves a disservice. Muse sessions are all about connecting to that spirit within you that wants to be a part of something bigger, creative and passionate. Why are these sessions different? They are more demanding of both you and me. We collaborate with ideas and images that inspire us – talk about what makes your heart sing. You as Muse. You inspire, we collaborate and create something exceptional that is an honor to your life, your family and your legacy. From our session, we’ll cull our favorite images and I’ll add some editing magic. These images will then be featured in a gallery show, bringing you into the story of Art. This gallery event can be just for you, for everyone you know, and for everyone who can hear you shouting from the rooftops. After the gallery show, these images will be yours – for you, for loved ones, for public display, the possibilities are endless. And, because we love tangible, tactile things – pretty things wrapped up with string – you’ll receive a hardcover image book, holding our favorite Muse images. Something to enjoy anywhere. If you connect to this – if you feel a little pull when you read about this – please send me a note. Let’s chat. I am so passionate about creating...
I have two kids that attend the Montessori school here in Evergreen and it’s the first school/child care place I’ve taken them where I feel really good leaving them to have a few hours without me. And it’s not just a matter of caring for basic needs. They’re flourishing and becoming little independent people that can clean up after they eat, hang their coats and kindly take turns. It’s pretty amazing to witness the change. Miracles can and do happen. And at the head of this magical place, you’ll find Beth Heller. My 4-year-old is certain that Beth is a fairy princess, which is an understandable mistake. She fits the bill with her effervescent personality, great smile and excellent fashion sense. She’s a natural with our children and she also has some great ideas about education and supports new ways to learn. You can read some of Beth’s thoughtful articles on education HERE. You can learn more about Montessori School of Evergreen HERE. We photographed Beth in a few locations around the Troutdale Campus. I love photographing in there – beautiful light, fun colors and textures and patterns, and many cute kids, hard at work. xo,...
Before Dr. James Rouse came to the studio, I’ve never had a client move more than me in a photoshoot. Halfway into our shoot, I had to ask if he needed to take a break, I felt like I’d been pushing him too hard. But he didn’t need to rest – his energy levels were through the roof. I had to keep reminding myself who I was working with here… Dr. James is a powerhouse of productive living. He is a Naturopathic Doctor, an entrepreneur, certified yoga instructor, wellness magazine founder, speaker, author, radio talk show host, QVC Network Wellness Doctor, Ironman triathlete, Dr. James does it all. He speaks with such enthusiasm and conviction about the wellness lifestyle, you come away feeling inspired to take better care of yourself — and to enjoy your life more. This is very true. If you’re like me, you find a kindred spirit in other entrepreneurs – read more about Dr. James in some of his highly regarded endeavors: Optimum Wellness Think. Eat. Move. mix1 Skoop AND…more exciting news… Dr. James and his beautiful wife, Dr. Debra Rouse, have a new book, titled “Think Eat Move Thrive” set to publish in September of this year. You can pre-order your book on Amazon today. The book’s cover photo is by your favorite portrait photographer (cough, ahem, me). Check out some more excellent active portrait photography below. If you’re not inspired to move by the end of this post, I’ll be very surprised. I feel like I’ve been sitting too long writing this post. The beautiful couple: Drs James and Debra Rouse I know I’m going to be picking up a copy –...
Our Miss Leah is winding up her senior year at D’Evelyn High School and in the fall will be heading to a small university in Iowa. It’s sad to see these great girls go, but at the same time, so excellent to see them grow and take on the new challenges of life. I’m excited to see where the next few years take Leah! Some of us are forever nostalgic and need to hold onto the moment. For those who need to cling, here’s a look-back at Leah’s highlight reel from her senior portrait sessions:...
Jani radiates a warm confidence – she’s the first one to come up and introduce herself at a gathering (this is exactly how I met her!). Her firm-grip handshake tells the story of her ability to connect and to be genuine and compassionate. Jani is a life coach, who calls on her lifetime of experience and the wisdom gained through her own transformation to inspire and encourage her clients. Jani was recently featured in the Evergreen publication, JustAroundHere.com. It’s a great write-up and I’m not going to attempt to out-write a writer, but I will share with you some of my favorite photos from our session! Please comment below and say “hi” to Jani. You can find out more details on working with Jani and upcoming workshops at her website, LoveLightTLC.com xo,...
