Dance in the Studio | Winter Ballerina, High School Senior Session It’s not often that I get to photograph my high school seniors in the snow, so I always love the opportunity to try something new and see what happens. This month I had the pleasure of photographing Rebecca, a high school senior who attends an out-of-town performing arts school, where she focuses on her dance studies. It was such a treat to have her come and play (with ballet!) and to share her talents and her love for what she does. It’s so inspiring to see so much focus, talent and passion in these kids. See for yourself, in her highlight reel below....
We had so much fun in the studio and in the hills, running around like cool crazy-people. Grace is a beautiful soul, she shines from the inside out. Enjoy the trailer! We almost thought we were going to get a spring snow shoot. But the flurries were so elusive and flurried that we never seemed to get them in our shots. Even so, I’m loving what came out of this session. Miss Em is wearing new arrivals from Dare Boutique in Evergreen (also in Denver) and Marian was our hair stylist, Sasha was our makeup artist. Both Marian and Sasha can be found at Alpine Ridge Salon & Spa. I love Emily’s range of expressions and looks in these series of images. She looks like different famous actresses – it changes from image to image. What do you think? As always, I love to hear your thoughts – comment below! xo,...
Our Miss Leah is winding up her senior year at D’Evelyn High School and in the fall will be heading to a small university in Iowa. It’s sad to see these great girls go, but at the same time, so excellent to see them grow and take on the new challenges of life. I’m excited to see where the next few years take Leah! Some of us are forever nostalgic and need to hold onto the moment. For those who need to cling, here’s a look-back at Leah’s highlight reel from her senior portrait sessions:...
Photoshoot concepts sometimes come with premeditation, sometimes they come on-the-fly. Often, for me, it’s a combination. I’ll hear about some photographers who will fully map out a shoot and have a firm strategy before the shutter snaps once. I think that’s amazing and I wonder if that’s something to aspire to achieve? Maybe. I don’t know if my brain will every be that organized. For this shoot, I had a strong vision going in of exactly what I wanted. And I got it (secret: it’s the fifth image from the top). But then I kept shooting, playing with angles and working with Charistina’s ideas and what she brought to the table (creek, ground, whatever). And I loved these even more. Welcome to images that I love and that were started with a simple idea and then – with intention, conversation, meditation and experimenting with angles and with post-processing became something I will always hold dear. This shoot was done in collaboration with Charistina Armbruster, an amazing model, creative thinker, and someone who gets things done. She is warm and kind – an all-around wonderful person. The beauty you see here is on par with what she carries inside. I share these images and hope you feel a connection to them as well. The first shot was featured in Vogue Italia’s online publication (very exciting for both Charistina and me!). You can click on the image to visit the Vogue Italia site. xo, Katy...

Why do I post Before & After images, you ask? Well, because you want to see them! But wait, you ask (ask as many questions as you like, they’re my favorite), do these ladies really want their Before images up for the world to see? Aren’t they hesitant to show these images side-by-side? Well, I answer, the reason I post these (with permission) is to show how accessible the After is to everyone. This magical transformation is our specialty. It’s what we love to do and we know that you are intrigued by it too. The Before & After page gets the most traffic of any on my website (thank you Google Analytics, for allowing me to stalk my own website). But the real magic is that the After image is still you – little ol’ you – just awesomeized, radiant. You deserve to see yourself this way and it’s super-fun to see the reaction of friends, family and significant others when they see what you look like when you take the time to enjoy a Modern(!) Glamour makeover session. It’s a wonderful experience and you’ll take away happy memories from your day as well as images you will always treasure. These After images will serve you well on days you feel lost in your Before-ness. They will continue to inspire you to set your bar higher, to make grander goals and to live life a little bit bigger. The After is just a glimpse of your dreams made real. xox, Katy...
